Project Overview

Westmass is currently preparing an FY2025 EPA Brownfield Cleanup Grant application for environmental cleanup activities at the Ferry Street Mills. If funded, the grant will focus on remediation of three key structures located at 7 Ferry Street in Easthampton: the dormant Boiler House (Site 1), the attached Turbine Building (Site 2), and Building 7 Warehouse (Site 3). These are all vacant structures within the mill complex including a 1903 powerhouse, a 1916 recovery building, a 1905 turbine powerhouse, and a 1950 cement block warehouse. This work will help enable and facilitate the development of 164 new residential units and other essential improvements, including parking, stormwater management (Sites 1 & 3), and the repurposing of the Turbine Building for commercial use (Site 2).

A public meeting to discuss the proposed cleanup project is set to take place virtually on Thursday November 7th at 4pm. Please join the public meeting by clicking on the following link: Join the meeting now

The application is still in draft format, and will be finalized and submitted ahead of the November 14th deadline. A copy of the draft application narrative and Analysis of Brownfield Cleanup Alternatives (ABCAs) can be found here:
