A Westmass-Led Development to Transform the Former Monson Developmental Center

Westmass Area Development Corporation is leading the redevelopment of the former Monson Developmental Center campus into a vibrant, mixed-use district that reflects the Town of Monson’s values and long-term goals.

While project planning is still in its early stages, Westmass is committed to a collaborative process that puts community benefit and thoughtful design first. Development is expected to take place in phases over many years, allowing for ongoing collaboration, refinement, and alignment with local needs.

Project Priorities (Current Phase)

We are currently focused on foundational planning and pre-development tasks, including:

  • Environmental Cleanup & Site Readiness: Safely preparing the site through demolition, environmental remediation, and infrastructure planning.
  • Existing Conditions Documentation: Assessing current infrastructure, utilities, and building conditions to guide future redevelopment phases.
  • Community & Municipal Collaboration: Working closely with the Town of Monson to explore appropriate reuse options that support local housing, jobs, and open space goals.

What’s Next?

Westmass is developing a phased redevelopment strategy that will balance housing, economic development, and other local priorities. Over time, we will engage potential partners, secure funding, and release more detailed plans as they take shape.
